General
How does Automate Shipping Profiles Work?
Automate Shipping Profiles lets you quickly assign products to your custom Shopify shipping profiles in bulk using Profile Conditions, eliminating the need to manually move products one at a time. Learn more about how ASP works here.
What do I need to get started with Automate Shipping Profiles?
To use Automate Shipping Profiles, you must have at least two Shopify shipping profiles and at least one Profile Condition.
Shipping profiles are a Shopify feature and must be created in your Shopify admin before they can be managed by Automate Shipping Profiles. Learn how to set them up here.
Does Automate Shipping Profiles only work with Shopify?
Yes. Automate Shipping Profiles was built specifically for Shopify and works with Shopify's shipping profiles feature, making it easy to automatically sort products into the appropriate shipping profiles.
Can I use Automate Shipping Profiles in Setup mode?
Absolutely! You can access most Automate Shipping Profiles features while in Setup mode. However, to run automation and bulk sort your products into Shipping Profiles, you'll need to activate billing.
Is there a free trial period?
Automate Shipping Profiles is free to use in Setup mode, allowing you to configure your shipping profiles and Profile Conditions before going live. To run automation and access all features, you'll need to select a billing plan.
Does Automate Shipping Profiles calculate shipping rates?
Automate Shipping Profiles is not a rate calculator.
It automatically assigns products to your Shopify shipping profiles based on the Profile Conditions you create. The shipping rates configured within each profile are then displayed to your customers at checkout.
If your shipping strategy requires more complex shipping rules, calculations, or live carrier rates, consider using our main app, Intuitive Shipping.
Can I use Automate Shipping Profiles with the Intuitive Shipping app?
Yes, but in most cases you won't need both apps.
Intuitive Shipping - our flagship app - gives you complete control over how shipping is calculated at checkout. Its rules-based system lets you decide exactly when and how shipping rates are displayed to your customers, and is designed to work with a single Shopify shipping profile. Learn more about Intuitive Shipping here.
Automate Shipping Profiles automatically assigns products to custom Shopify shipping profiles based on Profile Conditions, making it easy to manage multiple profiles without manually moving products.
While there are use cases where both apps can be used together, they are designed for different shipping strategies and are not typically used together.
Is Automate Shipping Profiles compliate with GDPR?
Yes! As a verified app in the Shopify App Store, Automate Shipping Profiles complies with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Learn more here.
Profile Conditions
How many Profile Conditions do I need to use Automate Shipping Profiles?
You only need to create one Profile Condition to use Automate Shipping Profiles. However, to take advantage of automation, you need at least two Shopify shipping profiles.
Do I need more than one shipping profile?
To take advantage of Automate Shipping Profiles, you need at least two Shopify shipping profiles. With only one profile, there is nowhere for products to be sorted, so automation cannot take place.
Why do I need to set the priority of my Profile Conditions?
If a product matches two or more Profile Conditions, the condition with the highest priority takes precedence, and the product is assigned to its associated shipping profile.
If you change the priority of your Profile Conditions and run a bulk update, any affected products will be reassigned to the appropriate shipping profile based on the new priority order.
Learn more about Profile Condition priorities here.
What happens if I make a Profile Condition inactive?
Each Profile Condition can be set to either 'Active' or 'Inactive'.
When a Profile Condition is set to 'Inactive', Automate Shipping Profiles ignores it and evaluates the next active Profile Condition based on its priority. Any products that would have matched the inactive Profile Condition are assigned according to the next applicable active Profile Condition.
If there are no active Profile Conditions, all products will be assigned to the default shipping profile assigned in your general settings.
What is the difference between the 'Any condition' and 'All conditions' Condition Match setting?
The Condition Match setting determines how a product is evaluated against the rules in a Profile Condition.
- Any condition - A product only needs to match one of the condition rules to match the Profile Condition.
- All conditions - A product must match every condition rule to match the Profile Condition.
What is the 'Shipping profile' setting for?
Use the Shipping profile setting to select the shipping profile that products will be assigned to when they match the Profile Condition.
Settings
What does the 'Automation status' setting do?
The Automation status setting controls whether products are automatically sorted into shipping profiles when they are added to your store.
If you add, remove, or edit your Profile Conditions, we recommend running a Bulk update to ensure your existing products are assigned correctly. Once the bulk update is complete and no further changes are made to your Profile Conditions, new products will again be sorted automatically as they are added to Shopify.
Setting Automation status to 'Off' does not disable billing.
Why do I need to select a default shipping profile?
Every product in your Shopify store must belong to a shipping profile, whether it's your 'General' profile (provided by Shopify) or one or more custom profiles created by you.
When you run a Bulk update, any products that don't match a Profile Condition are automatically assigned to your default shipping profile. This ensures that every product is assigned to a profile, even if it doesn't meet any of your Profile Conditions.
You can choose any existing shipping profile as your default within Automate Shipping Profiles. To create, remove, or manage your shipping profiles, you'll need to do so in your Shopify admin. Learn more here.
How do I add another shipping profile to the Default shipping profiles list?
Shipping profiles are managed in your Shopify admin, not within Automate Shipping Profiles. To add another option to the default Shipping Profile list, you'll first need to create a new shipping profile, then import your changes to ASP. Learn how here.
What is a Bulk update and why is it needed?
A Bulk update evaluates all of your products against your Profile Conditions and assigns each product to the appropriate Shopify shipping profile.
Whenever you add, remove, or modify a Profile Condition, such as changing its priority or editing its rules, you should run a bulk update to ensure your existing products are assigned to the correct Shipping Profiles. Learn more about bulk updates here.
Do I need to run a Bulk update every time I add a product to my store?
No. Once your Profile Conditions are set up and a Bulk update has been run to activate your conditions, newly added products are automatically assigned to the appropriate shipping profile after they have been synced with Automate Shipping Profiles.
You only need to run a Bulk update when you make changes to your Profile Conditions and want those changes applied to your existing products. We also recommend running a Bulk update after making a large number of changes to your products to ensure they are all assigned to the correct shipping profiles.
Why am I unable to run a Bulk update?
If you’re unable to run a Bulk update, it may be because your account isn't activated. Bulk updates are only available on active accounts. If your account hasn't been activated, you'll see a reminder beside the Bulk update feature. Learn how to activate your account here.
If you have an active account, but you're still unable to run a bulk update, please contact us for assistance.
Why do I need to import my Shopify settings?
To keep Automate Shipping Profiles in sync with your Shopify store, you'll need to import changes made in Shopify from time to time.
This includes changes to your shipping profiles, product collections, types, vendors, and other supported product data. Importing your Shopify settings ensures your Profile Conditions and ASP settings use the latest information when automation is running.
Can I use Automate Shippnig Profiles while I'm importing settings?
Absolutely! You can continue using Automate Shipping Profiles while your Shopify settings are being imported.
However, if you've made changes in Shopify that affect your Profile Conditions or default settings, wait for the import to complete before relying on those updates or running a Bulk update.
Billing & Support
How do I activate my account?
To activate your account, go to the Billing page and select a pricing plan. Once your account is activated, you'll have access to all features, including Bulk updates and automated product sorting. Learn more about billing here.
Why can't I test automation in Setup mode?
In Setup mode, you can configure your shipping profiles and Profile Conditions, but automation features are unavailable. Because Automate Shipping Profiles is designed to automatically sort products, there's no way to test automation without actually performing the app's primary function.
To run Bulk updates, automatically sort products, and access all app features, you'll need to activate your account by selecting a billing plan.
Do you offer a free trial period?
Automate Shipping Profiles does not offer a free trial. To activate the app and use automation features, you'll need to select a billing plan.
The app's primary function is to automatically sort products into custom Shopify shipping profiles using Profile Conditions. It does this by running Bulk updates, which evaluate all of your products and variants against your Profile Conditions and assign them to the appropriate Shopify Shipping Profiles. Whether you're testing your setup or managing a live store, each update processes your entire product catalog, regardless of whether any products need to be reassigned.
Can I change my billing plan?
Yes! You can change your billing plan at any time. If you're switching to a lower-tier plan, your current number of products must be within that plan's limits before the change can be made. Learn more here.
What are billing plans based on?
Pricing plans are based on the total number of products in your Shopify product catalog. Choose the plan that best matches the size of your catalog.
What happens if I exceed my plan limit?
If you reach your plan's product limit, automation will be suspended until you upgrade to a plan that supports your current catalog size.
We'll notify you by email when this happens and give you the option to upgrade to a higher pricing plan to resume automation.
ASP offers an 'Unlimited' plan which has no product limit, so automation will never be suspended due to your product catalog size.
Can I use Automate Shipping Profiles when automation is suspended?
Yes. If automation is suspended because you've reached your plan's product limit, you can continue using Automate Shipping Profiles in the same way you would in Setup mode. You can add, remove or update Product Conditions and import Shopify settings.
To resume automation, run Bulk updates, and regain access to all app features, you'll need to upgrade to a pricing plan that supports your current catalog size.
How do I uninstall and cancel my account if I no longer need Automate Shipping Profiles?
To cancel your account, simply uninstall Automate Shipping Profiles from your Shopify Apps list. Your subscription will be cancelled automatically, and monthly billing will stop. Your final charge will include the current billing period.
Your settings will be retained for a limited time in case you decide to reinstall the app. If you don't reinstall within that period, your settings and imported Shopify data will be permanently deleted.
If your needs change in the future, we'd love to welcome you back!
